Mr J. D. C. Crewe, Mayor of Fanatua, was a visitor to Masterton on Thursday. The Right Hon. W. F. Massey, ?rime Minister, celebrated his sixtyourth birthday yesterday. Mr William Brown, a well-known itorekeeper of Mangamahu, near Forlell, was found dead on Thursday. - It,is understood that, owing to. failng health, the/Rev. R. B. Gosnell -vill be leaving Greytown within the ,iext few weeks.

Mr D. St. George, late Chief Postnaster at Invercargill, retires at the md of this month, after 50- years ;pent in the Public Service. The resignation of Mr J. P. Firth, ;or many years headmaster of Wellington College, was received at o neetihg of the College Governors yesterday.

Mr A. Leigh Hunt, manager of the N.Z. Farmers' Co-operative Distributing Company, who has been' a Visitor to Masterton this week, returned to Wellington yesterday.

The Very Rev. Dean > T. McKenna -vas given an enthusiastic send-off from Pahiatua on Wednesday night, md presented with an illuminated address and two substantial cheques. Prior to leaving Woodville to engage in farming pursuits, Mr Leli Nicholas, an esteemed resident of the district, was presented, by his fellow residents with a gold albert and medal.

He has been many years in the Dominion, and during the war acted many parts with much, merit. As registrar of the Normal Hospital, ledgerrkeeper in the War Expenseß Department and quarter-master at Trentham Camp he holds credentials awarding him the highest praise. He was also associated with secretary ships in Wanganui, and his succesb and accuracy are attested to by Mr Veitch, M.B,
