DAIRYING LAND
IN MANAWATU DISTRICT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) FEILDING, Last Night. What is claimed to be a record land sale was held this afternoon in the Drill Hall. There was an attendance of over 600, from all parts of the West Coast, with keen bidding. Mr Lachlan McLean, of Feilding, sold his Kopane estate, and two sections at Cheltenham, both close to Feilding. Kopane, where there is a Boldier settlement of rich dairying land, was cut into 28 sections, from 24 to 48 acres. Sections were sold in their order at £lsl, £125, £154, £177, £lsl, £l2l, £l2O, £lO7, £126, £123, £l2l, £llO, £l3l, £127, £122, £l3l, £lll, £BB, £IOO, £7B, £57, £lO6, £ll3, £94, and £75 per acre. The average was £ll4 10s per acre, and the total for Kopane £104,386. Two dairying sections at Cheltenham, of 270 and 238 acres respectively, sold at £SO 10s per acre. The total realised by the whole sale was £130,065. That the cutting up of Kopane makes for closer settlement is indicated by the fact that there were 25 buyers for the 28 sections. Messrs Murray Roberts and Co, who conducted the sale, Bay it is the most successful ever held by them in New Zealand.
