THE PRINCE'S VISIT

MAYORAL STATEMENT.

The Mayor (Mr. W. H. Jackson) at I last night's meeting of the Masterton j Borough Council made a statement to 'the Councillors in connection with the visit of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales to Masterton. In the course of his remarks, the Mayor stated that he had met Captain Tahu. Rhodes, the Governor-General's military secretary, last Thursday, and had discussed with him the arrangements made by Masterton for the visit of the Prince. These had been approved by Captain Rhodes, who forwarded copies to the Governor-General and the Minister. The plans had been also officially approved of, said his Worship, and the arrangements would now bo proceeded with at once. Regarding tho reception of the Prince at the railway station, he stated that His Royal Highness would be received by tho Mayor and Mayoress, the Borough Councillors, Mr. G. R. Sykes, M.P., and Mrs. Syltes, and the Town Clerk. No other officials would be allowed upon the railway station, with the exeption of the railway employees. The Prince would -then proceed to the park, where the official ceremonies would take place. "I hope that the public will rise to the occasion. It will be tho most historic in the history of Masterton, and I hope that the occasion will be in every sense a notable one. I hope, also, that the householders along tho ! route will decorate their dwellings. It | will be a memorable occasion for the children. They will remember it all their lives. The town will be suitably decorated. An officer of the Public Works Department has already boon here, and I understand that the Department will undertake the decoration of the Post Office and other public buildings," said his Worship..
