Sergeant N. Miller, of Masterton, is shortly retiring from the Police Force on superannuation. His Honour the Chief Justice, Sir Robert Stout, is among the guests at "Brooklyn," Masterton. The death has taken place at Wanganui of Mr Peter Bell, one of the oldest settlers of Wanganui, at the age of 86 years.
Mr William Stock, one of Napier's earliest settlers, died at his residence, Nelson Crescent, Napier, oil Friday last in his 76th year. The Hon. Mr Parker, of London, Chairman of Directors of Dalgety and Co., Ltd., and Mr C. Reed, the London manager of the Company, who have been visiting the Masterton branch, left for Napier ,by the morning train yesterday. A Press Association telegram frpm Christchurch states: A veify wellknown priest in the person of Father Charles Bell died on Monday at Mount Magdala. He was 86 years of age, and came out to Now Zealand 25 years ago-with Bishop Grimes.
Mr H. E. Moore, postmaster at Eketahuna, who was formerly a member of the staff of the Masterton Post Office, has received not.fication that he has been transferred to Ha'wera, in the Taranaki district, as postmaster. During his short stay in Eketahuna, Mr Moore became . exceedingly popular, his businesslike manner and attention to the general public ensuring that the conduct of the local post office was on a par with ■any of its size in the Dominion. Mr Moore will take with him from the Wairarapa and Forty-Mile Bush districts the wellwishes of a grateful public, and a large circle oi: friends, who will congratulate the departing officer on his promotion to tho Hawera office.
