JAPANESE CRISIS.
How it was Caused.
SUDDEN DISSOLUTION OF DIET. (By Electric Telegraph.—CJopyriglit.) (Australiaa-N.Z. Gable Association.) LONDON, March 19. Sir Hamer Greenwood, speaking in the House of Commons, said that the British representative in Tokio had telegraphed an explanation of the situation. The dissolution of the Diet on February 26 was due to the Opposition's proposals regarding universal manhood suffrage, for which the country was not yet ready. It was, therefore, decided to hold a general election in May. The Government's opponents and the newspapers were heavily attacking the Cabinet also on finance, and the failure to reduce the cost of .living. The immediate result of the dissolution is the failure of the Budget, which provided for an increased defence vote, tariff revision on Protectionist lines, and anti-dump-ing laws.
