ANOTHER MANAWATU EIVER
VICTIM.
When the Napier expross train was coming through the Manawatu Gorge yesterday afternoon some of the passengers noticed the body of a man Boating down the stream. As far as could be seen the body was on its back, and 'was much swollen and dressed in grey, elothes. However, as the train entered a tunnel just after the body was sighted, they were unable to get a good view of ;t. On arriving at Ashhurst the police wero communicated with, and a constable went out to recover the body. Tho constable found the body caught in some Shallow rapids, and, with tho steepnesA and height of tho bank, it was with considerable difficulty that the body was got on the road, and it J was after dark when. Ashhurst was reached. Judging by the cursory examination made last night, and from his clothing, the unfortunate man was a swaggor, but the body was so decomposed that the features were quite unrecognisable. He wore a grey coat and tight trousers that had been very much patched, and, from appearances, he was about 60 years of age. An inquest will be held at Ashhurst. So .far as is known no person answering ,the description has been reported missing. . •
