NEW ZEALAND TEAM'S TOUR

The New Zealanders commenced their match against New South Wales in fine weather and with a tricky light. There wae a fair attendance. The wicket was slightly damp, caused by a shower during the night, though it soon dried, and played fast. Reese won the "toss, and sent Hemus and Sneddon in to open. The visitors began the first two wickets falling before a score was recorded, Kelleway taking both wickets in his" first over. Sneddon, beginning cautiously, got accustomed to the strange light, and opened out to Scott's bowling, but he was poorly supposed. Succeeding batsmen Hickmott and Scott succumbed for _nil. 'Kelleway quickly disposed of Reese and' Patrick, making his average'four wickets for 4 runs.
Sandman partnered Sneddon and the pair put a stop to the falling wickets. Boundaries brought a halfcentury in sixty-eight minutee, both batsmen playing confidently, stealing many short runs. They carried the total to 70, when Sneddon, going out to meet one of Kelleway'e "slows," had his "bails removed. He batted Si minutes, scoring six fours. ... When playing line cricket he gave Tnraper (off Kelleway) a hot chance, which was missed. Resuming after lunch Sandman played freely to Scott's • bowling. Afteai losing -t)arlton for three, he was joined by Robinson, who brought up the celitury in 1(31 minutes, both playing sound cricket. They gave the exhibition of the* day, hitting all round the wicket. Robinson's innings lasted 25 minutes, the partnership producing 58 runs. Sandman's' half-century went up in 64 minutes. Both Bennett and Boxhall were dismissed within the-next quarter of a;
til hottr, the innings closing for 161 in 134 minutes. ,
Sandman battled 74 minutes, and hit eight fours. His, batting was never dull. Andrews and Balrdsley opened "for New South WalW.te bowling of vßeese 'and Robinson," the second, ball; ket. Ailong partnership ensued, Andrews and' Collins hoisting the century in 61 .minutes. Although Carlton, Sandman and Bennett were each given a turn the changes had no effect. ,'fuckwell prettily caught Andrews off Bennfettl lasted 49 minutes, finishing the innings brilliantly. • Collins punished the bowling severely. The New Zealanders' fielding was faulty. After being m two hours five minutes Collins was bowled by Robinson, when just over the century. He hit nine fours . and >ne five.
