The New Zealanders commenced their match against New South Wales in fine weather and with a tricky light. There wae a fair attendance. The wicket was slightly damp, caused by a shower during the night, though it soon dried, and played fast. Reese won the "toss, and sent Hemus and Sneddon in to open.
