BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING
. The monthly meeting of -the Mastterion Borough Council * was held last evening, there being present—/His Worship the Mayor (Mr J: M. "€oradine) and Crs. R. J. King A. E. Winzeuberg, F. W. Temple, W. Candy, H. J. O'Leary, W. R. Kemball, E. Flanagan and G. W. Sellar. It was decided that an application frdm the Masterton Fire Brigade to use the "Park Oval be granted.' A request from the manager of the municipal abattoirs to effect improve"inents at his house was held over, to enable the Abattoir Committee to visit the building, and ascertain what alterations are necessary, ■<.* > ~ On the motion of Cr. Sellar it was decided that copies "of the reports of the various committees and managers of departments be forwarded to councillors before each monthly meeting. ...... It was- decided' to grant the Ellwood Trio and Messrs Thompson and Payne permission to give entertainments on Christmas night. The Railway Department wrote advising that the agreement in connection with the council's railway siding
lit Waingawa expires on December 31st, and notifying that in the future a. shunting charge" oT £2-5 per annum will be charged. It was decided that'the Council agree with the proposals of the Bailway Department. The secretary of the Masterton Picture Company wrote asking that they be included in the list of industrial concerns, in order to receive the special discount granted to consumers of 40,000 feet of gas per month.—it was resolved that the Council cannot see its way to entertain the application. A petition was received from residents of the Upper Plain asking that gas mains be 'laid, in order to connect their houses.—lt was decided that the applicants be asked to meet a committee of the council with a view to arriving at an agreement. - A letter was received from the Railway Department asking the council' if they would grant the Department a strip of land one chain wide for-'the purposes "of . placing a flag station at Waingawa, ahd it was resolved to grant the request provided that a loop line is. run under the verandah,of the abattoirs building, as by the taking away of the tram line the council would be placed in a worse position for loading and unloading' than they are at present, and that the whole of. the work be done free of cost to the council, and that the loop line be kept free. The reports of the Works and Finance, Gas and Abattoirs, .Library and Park Committees were read and adopted. - . Accounts totalling £BOS 4s were passed for payment, and charged as follows: General ac. £325 3s Bd, gas ac. £4OB 0s id.
