MAURICEVILLE WEST.
Our Oxen Correspondent
The weather, after fourteen days of heavy rain and cold winds, has taken up isomewhat, and for the sake of shearers, harvesters, croppers and holiday-makers alike, it will be a good thing if it remains so for at least a month, for outdoor work of every description is much delayed. The school broke up for the usual midsummer holidays on Thursday last.
Elaborate preparations are being made for the school picnic, which will be held, on the school grounds on Boxing Day. No effort or expense is being spared by the committee to ensure an enjoyable time for all. Mr Combs left on Saturday for Dannevirke, where he will spend a day or two. /• The Xmas tree is to be held tonight in the local church. Many choice gifts have been selected for the occasion.
