ENSILAGE.
in view of the abnormal growth of all kinds of vegetation, and the unsuitable weather--for-nay-making, farmers in the Masterton district should seriously consider the question of converting their grass into ensilage. The importance of winter-feeding; ( is being more fully recognised by dairyfarmers every year, and it is only a question of ti ; ne' when every up-to-date farm will be possessed of its silo. As a fodder for cows, ensilage probably has not an equal. It supplies just the sustenance required to fortify the animal against the winter cold, and it tones up the constitution in such a way as to ensure a marked increase in the lacteal flow when the cow is coming to profit. The construction of a silo is a matter of the utmost simplicity. No expert knowledge is required. Any farmer may utilise his grass for the benefit of his stock by the application of a little energy. We hope to see the farmers of this district devoting more attention to ensilage than they have done in the past.
