AMUSEMENTS.

THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES

"A SICILIAN TRAGEDY."

A large audience was present last evening at the Thompson-Payne Theatre, where the .programme went off very well. "A Sicilian Tragedy," the main feature"of the series, proved the most popular item, and called for marked enthusiasm. The best of the remaining dramas was probably "Tim Life we Live," a powerful domestic drama which showed that justice must always prevail in the end. Several other dramatic items included "The Harem of Haschem" (a dainty Turkish romance), "Songs of Truce" (an episdde from the American Civil war) and "An Indian's Appreciation" (a Western film full of excitement). A number of other interesting subjects were among "A Pair of Handcuffs," "Taming a Bajchelor," "A Cinema Tragedy;" and "The Wrong Handbag." This programme will be screened this evening. A special matinee programme will be shown at 2.30 on Saturday. Saturday's change includes the latest Nordisk triumph, "A Dash for Liberty," which is over 3000 f.cet 10ng.,..

TOWN HALL PICTURES.

"THE LAST OF THE OLD MILL."

Tho attractive aeries of films shown in tho current programme of the Master ton Picture Company, drew a bis audience to the Town Hall la.vt evening, and it is doubtful if a more enjoyable entertainment has yet been given ia the Town Hall. Each film' is deserving of special mention, the photography, staging, screening being well nigh perfect, and giving an excellent idea of the advance made in tho moving picture world. It has at various times *be,en stated that the moving pictures were on the wane,

but apart from this being the case, the popularity of these entertainments is daily increasing. This state of affairs is due almost entirely to the excellence of the entertainments provided, and in this direction the Masterton Picture Company can fairly claim to keep right abreast of the times. "The Last of the Old Mill," "Victim of Heredity," "Bernini Railway," "Brickmaking by Madagascar Natives," "How Did it Finish," and the remaining films, submitted by the Masterton Picture Company in its .current programme clearly show to "what extent the picture business has attained, and the enterprise of the company in securing such fine productions for the delectation of its patrons is to be commended. This programme will be shown for the last time to-night, and to-momhv anothe;big s'peeial series will be shown,.while the afternoon matinee will be devoted to providing bright amusement for the children.
