A NEW LABOUR LEADER.
Mr P. H. Hickey, tlie Secretary of the Federation of Labour, has. expressed the opinion that in six yeans' time "Labour"- will be the dominant power in New Zealand, and that Mr G. W. Russell will be the Leader of the Labour Party. Very few people will be disposed to accept Mr Hickey as a. reliable political'prophet. His statement concerning Mr Russell, howover, is not without significance. The member for Avon has been posing ae a. "liberal" and lias even occupied a place in a so-called Liberal Cabinet. • But, if Mr Hickey is speaking, with a knowledge of the inner working of things, Mr Russell is merely waiting his chance to kick awav the "Liberal" ladder and go baldheaded for Laboiir. We do not know just what Sir Joseph Ward and the moderate Liberals think of the position. But we should imagine that they will require the member for Avon to declare himself. The whole business is decidedly interesting, ;n the light of recent events. j
