AT TABLELANDS

A'Severe thunderstorm visited the

Tablelands district on Friday afternoon, says the Martinborough Star. A water-spout burst over the district, and several farms were inundated. In several places the water wa.s over tive feet deep on the road. It was a sighl worth seeing while it lasted, and one that will not soon be forgotten by those who had the misfortune "to be out in it.

Mr Collins, local agent for Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., who had been out in the Hinakura district with a party in liis motor car, Was returning to Martinborough when the watei'-spout burst, and he had some difficulty in negotiating the road as the water was flowing swiftly over it about two feet deep. He managed to get through, however, before the water reached its height. In several places the water was running over the'ton of the fences. It is reported that over 40 .sheep were carried away and drowned on Mr J. Taylor's property.
