At the local - Salvation A-fmy Barracks on Monday evening there was a large assemblage of people, when the prizes won by the juniors were distributed by Bro. F. E. Tyler. They consisted of some very handsome/ books. The first and second prizes were won by Misses Myra and Rita Tyler Bro. F. E. Tyler complimented the juniors on the proficiency of their work durirtg the "year, and hoped the coming year, would he as successful. Occasion was taken to farewell Sergt.-Major Cobb, who left on Tuesday to take up his residence in Palmerston North; Bro. Cobb was" complimented on the able manner in which ho had looked after the juniors during his stay in Cartertkl*, and be was wished God speed. The junionfe annual" picnic will be held in Carterton on Boxing Day. «- At the inquest touching the death of a drover named John Mackay, who was found dead in an outhouse at the Taratahi Hotel on Monday morning, a verdict was returned 'that death was caused through disease of the-heart, induced by excessive use'off alcoholic liquor over a period of years. In giving his verdict, the Coroner (Mr J. T. M. Hornsby) -said no blame was - +>i,i„ the licensee of the Taratahi Hotel, whero deceased died. He was an alcoholic subject, and every important organ in deceased's body was degenerated.
