THE LAND QUESTION.
PROPOSALS OF BRITISH GOVERNMENT (Received Last Night, 10.20 o'clock.) LONDON, December 10. The Right Hon H. H. Asquith, at the National Liberal Club dinner, to mark the inauguration of the Central Land Housing Council, summarised the land policy unfolded by Mr Lloyd George. It was,' he said, proposed to create a Ministry of Lands, to absorb the functions scattered among other Departments. , The Government would assist in housing by loans from the Insurance Reserve -Fund. It was not intended to adopt the Irish system of Land Court, which the English would not tolerate ; but commissioners weuld carry out the scheme. There would be a judicial body, independent of the executive. Its procedure would. be cheap and : expeditious. In future tenants' improvements would not he allowed to be taken into account in fixing new rentals.
