MAN SETS FIRE TO TWO HOUSES.
THEN SURRENDERS TO THE
POLICE

A farmer named James Warren Williams, at an early hour on Sunday morning, attempted to burn down a cottage occupied by his wife, and owned by A. S.' Paterson and Co., Wellington. After setting fire, to the building, he knocked on the wall to arouse the inmate. The fire was put put before any damage was done. Williams watched from a distance, and then rode to his farm—about two miles distant—and burnt his house and its contents. He then gave himself up to the police. He appeared before Mr Hornblow, J.P., this morning, and was remanded to Palmerston on the Tsth inst. .
Some time ago Williams attempted to commit suicide/
