AMERICAN ATHLETES ARRIVE ; TO-MORROW., ! ■ ._>•'. (By Telegraph—Preu Attociation.) WELLINGTON. Last Night. The American athletes will arrive on Thursday morning by the Tahiti. Their first real appearance willjbe at Christchurch on Saturday week, but they will_be given a breather at'a little",sports meeting at Waikanae on Saturday. This, however, will not be taken seriously 0 . The visitors will be shown round some of the flaxmills and stud farms in that district.
WAI&AKAPA CLUB, A meeting of the Committee, of the Wairarapa Aanateur Athletic Club was held last evening,\Mr J. Coradine presiding over a good attendance. '. . „* A letter was received from the N.ZIA.A.A. accepting the ter.ms, viz. £4O, for a visit fro-ai the American athletes to compete at the Wairarapa Caledonian Society's' meeting at Masterton on New Year's Day. A letter was received from Mr G. W. Sellar accepting the position of vice-president of the club, and enclosing donation of, £1 Is.. ' The following programmes were drawn up for future evening meetings:— * Thursday, 4th December.—22o Yards Handicap, 220 Yards Novice Handicap, 880 Yards Handicap, Hop Step and Jump and Pole Vault. Thursday. 11th December.—loo Yards Handicap, One Mile Handicap, and Putting "the Shot. Thursday, 18th December.—7s Yards . Handicap, 440 Yards Handicap, Two Mile Handicap, and High Jump. The following sub-committee was set up to control field events at evening meetings: Messrs J. Bradbury, ! sA. C. Williams, and O. E. Gaillie.
It was decided that it be a suggestion to the Caledoman Society to put » Relay Race on their programme for. New Year's Day, and that the Amateur Athletic Club provide .the trophies for same. •Messrs Thompson and' Payne were accorded [a. hearty vote of thanks for extending an invitation to the com* mittee of the club to be present at the Electric Theatre on Friday evening.
