Mr F. Dunstall, of tho Ekotahuna Fost Office, has received notice of his transfer to Nelson. Mr W. Morgan has tendered his resignation as a member of tho Hawke's Bay Education Board. Mr O. Knight, of tho Ekotahuna staff of Messrs Dalgety and Co., has been transferred to tho Blenheim branch.
A London cable states that Lord Sandhurst has been operated on for appendicitis, and is in a critical condition.
Miss Armstrong, of tho Masterton Telephone Exchange, has been transferred to the Auckland exchange for throe months. At tho adjourned meeting of the Mauricevillo County Council on Saturday last. Councillor J. E. Perry was re-elected chairman. Dr Carter, of Dannevirko, has accepted an appointment under the Pongaroa Medical Association, and -commences his duties to-day. Master Hartley Pike has resigned iiis position in the Eketahuna Post Office, to join the Wellington branch of the Bank of New Zealand. Mr H. Lan Simpson states that he will be a candidate for the Hawke's Hay seat at tho next general election in the Opposition interest. Mr "Skipper" Francis, who .appeared for a last time at the Masterton Town Hall on Saturday evening, leaves for Wellington this morning. His Excellency the Governor and a Ministerial party have gone through to Auckland to be present at the opening of the exhibition to-day. Mr H. F. Green, of Masterton, .and Madame Fieldhouso, of Featherston, will assist in the product ; on of "The Messiah'* at Eketahucm on December 10th. A Whangarei telegram states that Mr A T. Cotton., of Jordan, has consented to stand as an independent Liberal at the next election in opposition to Mr Vernon Reed. Mr William Perry, of Penrose, Masterton, who reached Sydney se-. veral. days ago on his return from Englaaid, improbably a passenger by the Maheno, which is due to arrive at Auckland to-morrow. A private telegram received in Wel--lingwm on Saturday announced the death:at Havelock North, Hawke's Bay, of Mr John Barr, father of Mrs A. S. A native named Korou Nini, who is well-known throughout the district, died at his residence in Masterton on Saturday morriingi The deceased, who was forty-nine years of age, had contracted a cold while ©elihg a few weeks ago, and this developed into a fatal internal complaint. a The deceased leaves a" widow and family. A big "tangi" is being held in the meetinghouse at Lansdowne. An Ashburton telegram records tho death of Mr Matthew Stitt, one of the oldest, best known, and most respected residents of that district. M&t was born in Scotland in 1842. He arrived in Now Zealand and com-1 menced farming in the Ashburton district in 1862. He was for many years a County Councillor, and a member of the Road Board and other local institutions. The many friends of Mrs Ross, senr., will learn with deep regret of her death, which took place at the residence of her daughter, Mrs W. Burridge, Masterton, yesterday. The deceased lady, who had attained the ripe old "ago of 76 years, had been resident in New Zealdfid for 52 years. Her husband predeceased her some
four years ago. She leaves a family .of three, Mr T. Ross, Mrs H. Hadley, and Mrs W. Burridge, who all reside in Masterton,"to mourn their ' loss, and much sympathy will be extended to them in their bereavement. The funeral will leave the residence of Mr W. Burridge, 2SI -Queen street on next at 2 p.m. for the Masterton Cemetery.
