Sir Walter Buchanan, M.P., was a visitor to Masterton last evening. Mr W. A. Kemball returned to Masterton last evening from hi* visit to Auckland. A Press Association telegram records the death of Mrs E. Taylor, a very aid resident of Woodville. Mr W. Richardson, of Palmerston North, has been appointed manager of Messrs R. Hannah and Oo's. Puhiatua branch. The congregation of the Lansdowne. Presbyterian Church has addressed a call to the Rev. Morgan Richards, a recent arrival in the Dominion. Mr J. McHattic, the Greytowu postmaster, has received notice that ; he has been promoted to the position of district accountant at Timaru. The .marriage of Miss Eileen Ward, daughter of Sir Joseph Ward, and Mr Wood, of Christchurch. is to take place in the first Meek in December. Mr M. J. Miller, a shipbuilder at Lyttelton, and at one time Mayor of that township, is to be the Government candidate for the vacant Lyttelton seat. At a meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, held in Wellington last night, MrCtisaek, of Wellington, was appointed organiser in connection with the forthcoming tour of the American athletes. Mr C. W. Henry, who has been connected with the Greytown branch of the W.F.C.A. for a number of years, has severed his connection with thatfirm. Mr Henry intends to start a bookseller's business on his own account in Wellington. A Wellington wire states that at a gathering of Chambers of Commerce vesterday, at which the lanama Exposition Commissioners were welcomed, it was announced that Mr E Clifton, Director of Experimental Farms would be the New Zealand Commissioner at the Panama exhibition to be held in San Francisco in 1915.
Mr Charles Halliday, for a long series of years Nelson's best known letter-carrier, died on Tuesday last at the age of 87 years. The late Mr Hallidav, whose son is postmaster m Feilding, was a well-known identity in Nelson, and his familiar form will be greatly missed in that town. He wasof a genial disposition and despite his advancing years, took a keen interest in current topics. The friends of Mr Bert Pickering, of Masterton, will leara with deep regret of the death of his wife., which occur red at the residence, Church Street, yesterday. The deceased lady had been ailing for some months, and the end was not unexpected. She was born in Auckland, and was a daughter of the late Mr TattersalL A husband and two young children are loft to mourn the loss of a loving wife and devoted mother, and great sympathy will be extended to the family in their sad bereavement. The funeral will leave the residence, 38 Church Street, tomorrow (Wednesday) at 2 p.m., for the Masterton cemetery.
