The spirited competition at the land sale in jVlasterton yesterday is in itself a vstriloing evidence of the demand that exists for improved properties in this district. Although the Alpass estate is ' seventeen miles from a railway, and,was cut up into comparatively small sections, it was competed for wtth an eagerness that wag remarkable. The significance to bo drawn from this sale is that confidence exists in the future of the dominion, and that large holders would be conferring a boon upon the district if they were to sub-divide and place a portion of their properties in "the market,' Notwithstanding the industrial crisis, there is a keen demand for improved ©state, and it would be in the interests of all concerned if private owners were to voluntarily sub-d;vide. Failing this, it will be incumbent upon the Government to bring pressure to bear.
