"THE ATTORNEY'S CONSCIENCE."
Despite counter attractions a large ■ and enthusiastic audience was pre-1 sent at the T.P. Electric Theatre last evening when "The District At- ( tomey's Conscience," the big Lubin special, again proved a very popular I item. "Riches and Rogues" was a clever English production which showed the doings of a pair of rogues and their lady accomplice. "Broncho Billy and the" Express Rider" featured C. M. Anderson, as a philanthropist. The Kalem Co. presented an excellent subject in "Bert's Reform," which showed how a wayward son was tricked into redemption. "The Sheriff's Brother" was a western drama of unusual type, while "Sharp Practice" presented a sensational kidnapping episode. Numerous other subjects included "The Elite Ball," "Bloomer's Charges" and "The Marriage for Money." This programme will be screened for the final time tonight. On Wednesday a big contintental sensation will be shown in "The Spider League," or "Yampires of Society," which is said to be an excellent feature and 3500 feet in length.
THE "SMART SET."
A large and appreciative audience greeted the first .appearance in Masterton of the "Smart Set" Entertainers, umV the direction of Messrs Walter George and Maynard Dakin. "Two hoxji's- of continuous laughter and fun" Ay as what was promised the public, and tho promise was redeemed to the fullest. From the rise of the-curtain till its'fall there was not a dull moment. Nor was there a semblance of anything but innocent humour and rollicking fun. iMr Maynard Dakin, who has previously visited Masterton, is a king of comedians. He wa§, howeve*, indisposed last night, |nd appeared in the concerted numbers. Messrs WaJ#r George and.' Edward Eliott 'sre also humorists ot the first water r V , The latter, in hisy ventriloquial efforts, assisted *-l>y "Sunshine James," fairly., brought down the hou#L , Hisr local "hits..were also very clever. Miss Georgia Martin a favourable impression with her humorous Cockney songs, and was imperiously recalled. Mr Emest Parkes has -a very fine baritone voice,' Vhich he used with capital effect, while Miss Gweenyth Evans gave sevejal pleasing contralto numbers. TWconcerted items were j a feature of #ie programme, the voices of the mppibers of the company blending with remarkable harmony. , The burlesque, the dramas, the coon songs, the choruses, they were all full of life arid animation, and the Whole entertainment was pronounced one of the brightest ever seen, m Masterton. Mr Edward HjiUand presided at the 1 piaop, and proved himself a master of the instrument. The "Smart Set" will, appear again to-night, when-there will be an entire change of programme.
