PUBLIC WORKS STATEMENT.
While the obstructive methods adopted by the Opposition have been responsible for a great deal of delay in carrying through the Government programme, it is very much to bo regretted that the Minister for Public Works has not yet been able to bring down his sessional statement. The local authorities of the Dominion are anxious to get to work during the summer months, and they are naturally concerned at_the delay in bringing down the Public Works Statement. The extraordinary expenditure that has been entailed by the strike will, no doubt, necessitate the revision and modification of the public works estimates. Nevertheless, it is highly important that the proposals of the Government should be made known as soon as possible, and that the House should bo, given a reasonable opportunity for discussing and, if necessary, criticising them.
