WORK AT NELSON.
FARMERS HANDLING CARGO
STRIKERS ASKED TO STAND FIRM.
PUPONGA MINERS "DOWN « TOOLS."
NELSON, Last Night. . The local wharves were again worked by farmers and others, comprising the Arbitration Union, to-day, without molestation from the strikers, who, however, showed some resentment at the amateur lumpers discharging coal from the steamer Kennedy.
Two young farmers volunteered as firemen for the bay steamer Kina, which is held up owing to a shortage of men, and, the Marine Department's permission being obtained, the vessel sailed.
Three seamen have left another bay steamer, the Wairoa. The miners at Puponga -■ have "downed tools" in sympathy with the strike, and those at~the North Cape mine are considering the question of co*ming out. The steamer John, is delayed at the former place. An arrangement is being made for the systematic supply of wharf labour, each district taking its own supply of the neeessayy men, - The Federation Union has received word from Wellington to stand firm, the effect of the arrest of the strike leaders being increased solidarity. _
