THE BRITISH CABINET.
A special cable published hi our issue this morning would indicate that the British Cabinet is very seriously perturbed over the state of public feeling in the Old Country at the present time. The recent elections for Heading and Linlithgow have demonstrated clearly that there has been a revulsion' I "'against the Government. Whether this is due to the determination to press on with the Home Itule Bill in face of the hostility of Ulster, or whether it is the result of the operation of the Insurance Act, ia not ascertainable at this distance. The fact that Cabinet is" seeking an exchange of views with the Opposition, presumably on the Home Rule question, would indicate that this issue is regarded as the one upon which the fate of the" Government rests. The Liberal Government has gone too far in Hie matter of devolution to retrace its steps. -It must either carry out its pledges to the Nationalists, or go to the country. Nothing in the form of a compromise wiltl satisfy the .Irish Party. The outlook for the immediate future' is mani-. festly serious for the Liberals.
