POSITION AT WESTPORT.
A STRIKE LEVY.
WESTPORT, Last Night. A young man rang a firebell in West port at midnight by order of the Strike Committee. He said the steamer Mangapapa was taking cargo aboard. Tho idea appears to have been» to alarm the pickets. The Mangapapa got away to Kara-m-ea with her cargo, which was quietly loaded.
. A body of strikers this morning prevented fourteen deputies going to work at the Denniston mines. The deputies have a union of their own, which is not connected with the Federation of Labour.
The "YVestport general labourers will levy one day's pay per week to suimport the dependents.
