A FERRY STEAMER.
MANNED BY FREE LABOUR
UGLY MJSH BY WATERSIDERS,
LYTTELTON, Last Night. The Pateena arrived .at 1.15 p.m. with 320 passengers from Wellington. She was manned'.by the officers and a few free labourers iri the stokehold. After the passengers had disembarked, the President of the Watersiders' Union got« permission and went aboard. He returned and told the crowd on the wharf that "scabsf" were firing, and that they had told him they intended to remain "scabs," The cro!wd made an ugly rush for the gangway, but were repulsed. The Pateena was then taken away fro*n the wharf, and,, the gangways removed. The strikers withdrew and held a meeting. / Trouble is expected when the passengers board the Pateena to-night. The •police are watching the wharf.
