EVENTS AT WELLINGTON.

■WORKING THE STEAMERS.

THE DRIVERS GO OUT,

A MINORITY DISSATISFIED

WELLINGTON, Last Night.

The tx-amp steamer Northern, and the coaster Huia, froita Wanganui, were added to the list of vessels being worked at the wharf to-day. {.rood progress was made with the unloading of case 'oil and general cargo from the Northern. The Moana finished loading, and went out to the stream to wait for a crew to carry her to 'Frisco.

A large quantity of butter and cheese was put aboard the Athenic, while the officers and crew of that vessel did some ooaling. The unloading of the Willochra's fruit was continued, and the Corinthic was brought in to the wharf ready to start the discharge of 4700 tons of general cargo. At noon, between 300 and 400 Olivers ceased work, but most of the firms had made arrangements so that they had a number of lorries running, members of the firms and office staffs taking the reins temporarily. It is not texpected there will be any difficulty in replacing-the men who stopped work to-day. It is said that at the Drivers' Union meeting a minority tried hard to get a ballot' on the strike proposal, but without success. It is further stated that the minority will seek legal advice as to whether they have a remedy against the Union in the matter of a penalty for striking, and for loss of wages through leaving the carts.
