LIBERTY AND LICENSE.
.Wiiiie we have always been sticklers for the liberty of the subject and freedom of speech, we feel it our duty to draw the attention of the authorities to the happenings in the streets of Masterton on the last two Saturday nights. A couple of Red Feds, have got together a crowd at the street corner and employed language of a, distinctly incendiary character. 'Besidefe causing ftn obstruction of the thoroughfares, and annoyance to tradespeople, they have assailed individuals in such a manner as to go perilously near provoking a breach of t-He peace. At the present moment, when the public conscience is highly sensitive, the harauging of, crowds at street corners cannot be too)'strongly deprecated. Several persons in Wellington have been mulct in heavy penalties for engaging in unlawful assemblies. We lopk' to the police in Masterton not only to prevent obstruction of the thoroughfare, but to suppress such assemblies as are calculated to incite people to breaches of the peace. I? the Red Feds, wish to air thengrievances, lot them do so in & proper manner, and iij a-proper place.
