AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
FIRST EVENING MEETING. The first of the series of evening meetings, to be held under the auspices of the Wairarapa Amateur Athletic Club, was conducted 'last evening under somewhat unfavourable climatic condition. There was. however, a fair number of spectators, and the two events were got off to tim© under the capable hands of the starter (Mr W. Dickson). The i£sultg r were a,s foliar:—* 100-Yards Handicap.—First Heat: J. Vesty (9yds), 1; J. Dunn (9yds), 2; S. Pragnell (12yds) and W. Land (10yds), dead-heat, 3. Second Heat: S. Hoar (10yds), 1; L. Mexted (9yds) 2; L. Crass (12yds), 3. Final: J. Dunn, 1] S. Hoar, 2; S. Pragnell, 3. Dunn won all the way by yards. 440 Yards Handicap.—L. Crass (30 yds), 1; A. L. Tressider (17yds), 2; S. Hoar (35yds. s 3. ' Also" ran: J. Dunn (27yds), S. Pragnell (40yds), A. Newland (40yds), E. Newland (-10 yds). After a good race Crass won by two yards. ,
