MONTHLY MEETING.

The monthly meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held lilst evening, there being present—His .Worship the Mayor (Mr J. M. CoraCrs. H. J. O'Leary, F. W.' Temple, E. Flanagan, W. R. KomAail, J, C. Ewington, W. E. Winzenflperg, R. J. King, and W. G. Sellar. It was decided that the report of the borough engineer in reference to "Jbuilding a stop-bank at the Park Lake be adopted. The engineer estimated the cost of the work at £205. The proprietors of the Otago Daily \ Times wrote, offering to supply the l)aily Times for the Municipal Library at. £1 per annum.—Received. Tho. question, of effecting improvements iii the park caretaker's house was left in the hands of tho town clerk. - - . An application from a local contractor for the use of the old works yard was declined. It was decided that the question of calling tenders for coal for; municipal fcwmiposes be held over for ono month. jP iThe town" clerk a-sked for the council's instructions in reference to the granting of licenses to the Town Hall and Fores-tors' Hall, ,and stating that certain improvements recommended by the fire inspector had not been carried out.—lt was decided that the proprietors of the buildings in question be informed that unless a answer is given to the recommendations of the fire inspector, the council will be compelled to take steps,to ensure that these recommendations are carried ■ OUt. "€* Ewington' brought up thequestion of . supplying customers outside fetthe borough with coke from tho gasand moved that in view of the •present industrial' crisis no coke should bo supplied outside the borough. The matter was discussed at length, and it was finally decided that if local industries andi citizens were likely to be adversely affected, the manager of thej gasworks be empowered to curtail outside orders. The reports of the works, finance, gas and abattoirs, and park and library committees were read and adopted. V Accounts totalling £1671 12s lid were passed for payment, made up as follows: Gas, £862 9s 8d; general, £BO9 3s 3d.
