MR W. T. YOUNG.

EXPLAINS HIS POSITION. HE WILL NOT BE DICTATED TO. WELLINGTON, Last Night. In reply to a statement telegraphed from Dunedn that the Seamen's Union demand Mr W. T. Yotfng's resignation, either as secretary of the Seamen's Union or as president of the Federation of Labour, Mr Young said this afternoon -

"I may say that I take absolutely oio notice whatever of it, for the reason that officers of the Wellington branch are not at the dictation of a meeting of twelve or thirteen- members that might assemble at Dunedin. So far as Auckland is concerned, I know nothing about any attitude that they may have taken up with'regard to the strike. A branch is at liberty, of course, to please itself in any action that it may take, just the same as this branch. I will not personally tolerate a<ny interference from Auckland or Dunedin, which two places have been dead ends in the seamen's organisation for the past eighteen months. The only real activity displayed on behalf of the seamen of this country can safely be laid at the door of the Wellington branch. My position in the Seamen's Union is one for the members of that body to determine. So far as the communication from Dunedin is concerned, I shall certainly place it before a mass meeting of seamen for their consideration."
