MAN DRIVEN TO LUNACY. WELLINGTON La*t Sight. ]n connection with a case in which a rough handling was meted out to a Wellington South resident, it appears that the man went down to the
Post Office' Square last Saturday morning, although he had not worked on the wharf, and was not a "scab" as he had been termed. He was wellknown to most of the strikers, but after asserting that he did not lieve in strikes he was attacked by the mob and received a severe handling. He managed to run away, but was quickly pursued by the .strikers. At the corner of Lambton Quay and Willis Street he succeeded in boarding a south-bound car. A number of strikers jumped aboard after him, but when the car had reached Mercer, street, a picket prevented any further trouble. According to a statement by'the man's wife, he was in a terrible condition when he ar-. rived home, having been severely bruised about the head. Us a result of his maltreatment, the man's condition became eo bad that he had to be taken to the mental hospital.
