HOMING PIGEON CLUB.
FIRST RAOE OP THE SEASON, The Masterton Homing Pigeon dub flew the first old bird race of the pre'* sent season from Ohristchurch on Saturday. The weather was very rough, the birds having to contend with rain during the whole journey" (236 milea airline). The birds were liberated in drizzling rain at 10.2-5 a.cm. on Saturday, and the first si* birds home came practically together,, being separated by a minute or two only, arriving at 12.50 on Sunday; afternoon. Mr J. Bradbury , aced as judge, «ncl the following is the detailed result: —■ Mr J. B. F. Sutherland's "Finisher," actual flying time 17hrs lrmin, Ist. Mr J. Dixon's "Coromandel," 17hrs l|min, 2nd. Mr W. Gourlay's "Avalanche," 17hrs 19Jmin, 3rd. Mr W. Drake's "Little Mary,'* 171irs 21min, 4th. F. B. Rosson and H. M. Wilton also "clocked in." The above race was for tho No. 1 South birds, and the next race will be for the No. 2 North birds on Thursday, • the race point being Ohakune. On Saturday the No. 2 South' birds will have their first race from Wellington. The Ohakune birds will be hampered to-cnorrow night.
