THE MASTERTON RACES.
The Masterton Racing Club is to be congratulated upon the success that attended its race meeting yesterday. The gathering was the largest and' most orderly that has been seen upon the course; the arrangements were a distinct improvement upon those of former meetings; the appointments were good; the totalisator investments were brisk; and everything passed off without the semblance of a hitch. The Masterton public has of late years taken a very lively interest in the affairs of its Racing Club, and it is confidently anticipated that in course of time the local meetings will be among the most important in the Dominion, and this notwithstanding the fact that the Racing Commissioners, in their wisdom, treated the district as though it were of thirdrate importance. With the support of the public behind it, and controlled by a body of enthusiastic stewards, the Masterton Club.is hound to succeed. ;
