THE LATEST LOAN.
The Minister of Finance made a frank and impolrtant statement in the House of Representatives yesterda.y concerning the £3,500,000 loan thaihas just been floated on the London market. He made it clear that the money wa<s not required for public works expenditure, but for loans and debentures' that ore falling due. It apneas thai wit-kin ths next months, thanks to the extraordinary financial methods of the "Liberal" Government, no less a sum than £12,000,000 is falling due. The Hon. James Allen does pot think it desirable to go on to the London market for such a large sum at oine time, and so he. is anticipating matters by getting in early. The wisdom of the course that is being pursued will appear; to everybody but those who live to find fault. "The Minister of Finance is faced with an enormous responsibility, bait he is taking every reasonable precaution to protect the good name and credit of the Dominion at a period when the financial position is severely strained.
