(By "Also Started.") There is every indication that the Masterton Racing Club's spring rrieeWing, winch takes place fit Opaki tomorrow, will be one oif the "most satisfactory in the club's history. The. fields are of good average size, while quality will also be well represented. Numerous inquiries have been received by the secretary from all parts of the North Island for eo-nplimentary passes, showing that the decision of the club some, time ago to dispensetickets to outside racegoers was a step in the right direction. A visitor to Opaki yesterday, who has not been in j Masterton for some years, referred in ! very flattering terms to the great im-; provements effected in regard to the appointments and general arrangements. The racing track has nevej; been in better order than at present, the recent rains greatly improving the going. ■ There was little interesting work at Opaki yesterday, the majority of visiting horses not ai'riving till yesterday evening. * ' Several Spring Handicap candidates were out doing light exercise; Otahujf looking very well, did two rounds af*. half pace, wlule Sinapis and Expect were allotted easy»tasks. VBoth.are looking remarkably well, but the latter looks as if a race would be beneficial. > W. Bell will ride Sinapis and W. Young will be up on Expect. ) Guiding Wayj from the same stable as Expect, sprinted along three furlongs, showing a deal of pace. His* companion was St. Brandon, who is backward. . - Overrate and Top Note were associated in a five furlong flutter, the latter showing to most advantage in lmin sec. Piemiont ran a nice five furlongs, covering the' first four in 52sec. ?*■ Lubraline and Miss Trumps spurt-' ed a oofuple of furlongs, the two-year-old showing a deal of pace., Manitau and the Benzonian—Platypus filly in R. Knox's stable went six furlongs, both finishing well. The latter promises to develop into a fine class of-racehorse. Sixteen horses will arrive from Wellington this morning.
