THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES.
"DETECTIVE BURNS."
"Dotecuve Burns," in "The Exposure of the Land Swindlers" will form the main feature of the programme to be submitted by Messrs 'i'liompson-Payne at their popular hal] to-night. This subject is 3200 feet in length, and features Detective W. J. Burne and Miss Alice Joyce, the premier picture actress. The story is adapted, portrayed and prepared by the Kalem Coy., and is a time representation of actual happenings in New York. The originality of the theme of this picture is sure to prove a popular draw. In support of this fine feature several other dramas will be shown, including, "The War Hostaye," (also a Kalem contribution), and "The River Pirates," (a Lubin item). -The Burglar who Bobbed Death" is a fine Selig study. A promising young physician, through the .drink, jeopardises his profession and reputation. A sudden illness takes his wife and child "from him, whom he dearly loves. He goes from bad to worse, and at last falls in with a gang of thieves, who persuade him to commit a burglary in the Harrison house. Observing that Mrs Harrison has been left alone this night, he cuts the telephone wires and enters, to see the mother endeavouring to ring up the doctor to come to her child, who is very ill. He feels ashamed, and offers his services to save the child's life. The severed wire is discovered, and investigations made, but the grateful mother shields the burglar, who is very much affected. A very interesting item will be given by the Lubin Company's production, "The Baseball Industry," which gives a grand idea of the extensiveness of this trade in-the United States. Other interest films are "Winchester" and "Industrious Japan." The usual comedy element will be sustained in "Polidor is Invisible," "The Egg Powder," and Billy's Mistaken Overcoat."
TOWN HALL PICTURES.
"THE THREE ARTISTS." At the Town Hall to-night, the Masterton Picture Company will present another bright and interesting programme. "The Three Artists," a fine Nordisk drama, will take the pride of place- A series of enthusiastic calls marked the final thrilling episode of the big act of the circus. Brandon and his wife Henny, with their handsome partner George "Warton, were compelled to smile and face the public until the Veil rang for the next item. Brandon sees Henny kiss Warton, who later leaves thetheatre to work a single a&, Dick tries_ ropewalking, and meets with an accident. Henny leaves him and goes to George. Nightly she standsbefore the target and holds the. objects for the rifle shot. Dick, unknown to the pair, acts as night watchman,, and he damages the sight of George's rifle, and watches through a curtain the result of his scheme. The apple trick, in which George had hitherto never failed, that night proved fatal to! Henny. Other thrilling episodes tend to .make this film one of the best of picture productions. The programme also includes a number of other splendidly arranged pictures. New Zealand Animated News provides fresh and interesting itemis, while a splendid Kalem comedy is witnessed in "Parcel Post Johnny." "Freddy's Dumb Playmate" is aB. and C. drama while a powerfully conceived dramatic work is the Vitagraph feature "Sisters All." Another comic which is responsible for much amusement is '"Rule Thyself," a fine production by the Edison Company. A splendid programme this, which should be witnessed by all. Candy's orchestra may be relied on to provide the best of music.
