A POLITICAL CANARD.
THE DEFENCE CONFERENCE.
'Times' —'Sydney Sun' Special Cables, (Received Last Night, 5.5 o'clock.) LONDON, October 11.
Opinions have been expressed thatit is regrettable that the Commonwealth Ministry does not recognise that the report that the Defence Conference has been abandoned is merely a canard manufactured by a small section of the Conservative party and press, for the purpose of injuring the Liberal Government. Neither the public nor the politicians of either party are the slightest bit interested in the controversy, which, under present conditions, is futile and aimless; It would-, it is said, be most regrettable if Commonwealth 'Ministers, upon misleading informbtion-j-.-.Tfrere vto express opinions which might rupture the harmonious relations with the British Government? and the Imperial and Australian interests.
