MORE BORRROWING.
It suits, the Opposition just now to publish the fact from the housetops that the Government is indulging in extensive borrowing operations. Imagine a Government that had denounced the extravagance of its predecessors going on to tne Londan market for five or six millions of money in n. vcai:!! Yes,. j:ist [r.uigine it!
But will the Opposition tell the coun- i try why this borrowing is necessary? Will it have the candour to admit that its own recklessness and extravagance, and its had business methods, has compelled the Government to find money to meet loans that are falling due? It is very well to give one side of the picture and to, endeavour to mislead the public by concealing important facts. But the truth, like murder, will out. The electors know very well that the short-dated loans of the "Liberal" Government have to be met, and they can only be met by renewals or fresh borrowing.
