DUKE FOOTE WINS CRAVEN

(Received Last Night, 7.40 o'clock.) SYDNEY, Oct. 8.

There was fine weather and a good attendance for the off day of the A.J.C. spring meeting. The surprise of the gathering was the running of Beragoon and Soltano in the Craven Plate. Duke Foote was a hot favourite, and it was expected the three-year-olds would give the champion a good race, bait Soltano, who was third favourite, after making the pace for six furlongs, was headed by Duke Foote, and thereafter dropped back. Beragoon was hard ridden nearly all the way. Duke Foote was loudly cheered on his victory to-day. Results

Second Hurdles.—Hallmark 1, King Lure 2, Fiddlestring 3. There were fifteen starters, including Wimmera, Marton and Beacon. Marton was favourite, but was badly left, and eventually fell at the mile post. Won by three-quarters of a length. Time, 4min 44|sec. Craven Plate. —Duke Foote 1, Pos-. imatus 2, Gigandra 3. Eight started. Worn by two lengths. Beragoon was fourth, and Soltano last. Time, 2min s|sec.

Suburban Handicap.—Mandowa 1, Coradil 2, Woolerina 3. Twelve started. C. Emerson rode the winner. Won by -three-quarters of a length. Time, lmin 39sec. Grantham Stakes.—Mareulfus 1, Larelle 2, Cedilla 3. Twelve started, including Banksia. Won by three lengths. Time, lmin 40sec. Gimcrack Stakes. —Woorak 1, Carlita 2, Makea 3. Won by five lengths. Time, 54sec. Sydney Handicap.—Alured 1, Limelight 2, Sir Vive 3. Ten started, including Midnight Sun, who finished fourth. Wo'i by four lengths. Time, 2min 34fsec.

THE RACE FOR THE CLIBBORN

STAKES.

A well-known trainer states that the last seven furlongs of the race for the Clibborn Stakes (won by Soitano) was out out in 1.25. The horses, particularly Soltano, were flying when racing past the six furlong post.
