NOXIOUS WEEDS.
The letter addressed by Inspector /Webb to the Masterton Borough Council, in which it is pointed out that noxious weeds from local gardens arn deposited in the Wa'poua river-bed, whence they are clistriW'" 1 ®'-"d waters over the properties of far.riens, should awaken the Cctancil ta its
moral responsibility in the mattor. Although foxglove and other weeds are not scheduled as noxious within the Borough, they are so scheduled in the County, and it is highly improper that the Borough Council should permit them to be deposited in a river-bed. It would-appear that there is nothing in the Noxious Weeds Act to prevent weeds that are not scheduled in the Borough from being distributed broadcast. In this respect, the law is defective, and should be amended. In the meantime, the Borough ,Council should endeavour to protect the properties of farmers, many of whom are ratepayers in the Borough, from spoliation at the hands of town dwellers.
