SUBSCRIPTION CURSE.
The Netv* Plymouth News' |s-tired ef ■the subscription business. It says":— The average body is generally found, after its annual meeting loaded up with a long string of patrons; a dozen vice-presidents, twice that number of sub-viee-piesidents and a whole fist of other unnecessary officers who axe variously estimated in value at from a couple of guineas to a modest "dollar." It js a frank form of blackmail at the pistol's mouth that is highly objectionable, and is "*neither creditable to the organisation ithat indulges in ijt nor pleasant to their victims. If these gentlemen wish to subscribe to the funds of any local club or body they might surely be permitted to do so voluntarily, without having the "honour" thrust upon them in such a bare-faced manner. The system is little short of flagrant indecency. Members of . Parliament are of course the principal sufferers, And many of them are perfect Pooh Bahs in the multiplicity of offices they are allowed to hold, at ft guinea a time, from president of the W<viry Willies' Rest Club to patron of. the Home for Tired Prevaricators.
