The engagement has. been announced of Miss Fox-Irwin, the fifth daughter of Major Fox-Irwin, of the Channel Islands, to Mr Walden Harding, of Mount Vernon, Hawke's Bay, eldest ison of the late Mr R.-Hard-ing*

Mrs Harden, of Cole Street, gave a small musical party on Friday for Mi's Mcßeth. A few of the guests were Mrs Harrison, Mrs Dyer, Mrs Innes-Jofnes, Mrs Milne, Mrs: P. Cook, Mrs iSpain, (Mrs Gaithnio S:nith, and Miss Bell.

Mrs Anderson and Mrs J. B. McKenzie, of Masterton, are attending a conference of the Women's Political Reform League in Wellington. -

Mrs G. Vennell, of "Barry :n ore," Bideford, who recently underwent a serious operation in a private hospital in Masterton, is sufficiently recovered to be able to leave the institution.

At-St. Aiden's Church, Alfredton, 'on Wednesday last, an interesting ' wedding was solemnised, when Miss Bousted, only daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Bousted, Alfredton, was- married to Mr James Rutherford, eldest son of Mr and Mrs W. Rutherford, of iftfaori Hill. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked charming in a lovely dress of white mervielleaux, trimmed with exquisite silk laoe,, insertion, and pearl; trimming. The veil was worn over a wreath of orange blossoms, and she .carried a lovely shoiwer bouquet of white flowers and asparagus fern. The bridesmaid was Miss Rutherford, who wore a dress of biscuit-coloured silk poplin, trimmed with insertion. Her hat was black with white ostrich j feathers. She carried a bouquet of j stocks. The bridegrqiom was at- j tended by Mr Tom-Rutherford, and j the officiating clergyman was the Rev. Mr Walke, of Eketahuna. The j church . was beautifully decorated with clematis and evergreens by a number of the bride's friends. A feature) of the decorations was a large floral bell in the centrie of the building. After the ceremony Mr and Mrs Rutherford entertained a large number of guests at a progressive euchre party and dance, the crowded attendance testifying to the general esteem in which the young couple are held by all who know them.
