A London cable announces the death of* Lady KnigKley, who was prominently associated with the British Women's Emigration Society. Mr W. S'. Douglas) editor of the Auckland Herald, died on Thursday, after a painful illness. The deceased was one of the best-known and most respecEecL journalists in the Dominion.
Messrs A. McKenzie (Featherston), and W.' H. Booth (Carterton) will act as judges af the forthcoming Manawatu show. Messrs J. B. McKenzie and Rawson are representing the • Masterton branch of the Political Reform League at, the league conference which opens in Wellington to-day. The death is announced* from Hastings of Anna Maria Keogh, reEcE of the late ®r MathiaV Keogh, of Dublin, and bother of the Rev. Father Keogh, aged eighty-five.
Miss Maud Hayward, until recently matron of, the Masterton Hospital, left for ChriStcEurch on Thursday to attend her mother, who is seriously ill. The remains of the late Mrs Cavanagh, wife of Mr* James Cavanagh, were interred in the Masterton cemetery yesterday afternoon. The funeral ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father Harnett.
Mr G. B. Nicholls, organiser of the No-licemse Party, was seriously injured in Christchurch on Thursday as the result of a collision with a tram-car when riding his motor bicycle. Mr Nicholls is a son of the late Mr Nicholls, of Atea, near Eketahuna, who died from shock after the severe earthquake a few years back.
Mr E. W. Porritt, of Pareora, aJid one time of Masterton, has written the Waihi branch of the Political Reform League, giving, an emphatic denial to a rumour that he intends contesting the Qhinemuri seat at the next general election.
