IMPERIAL DEFENCE.
PROPOSED CONFERENCE
(Received Last Night, 10.15 o'clook.) LONDON, Oct. 3.
The Morning Post says the statement, emanating from Australia, that a Conference on Imperial Defence has been arranged for early in, 1914, represents the aspiration rather than the fact. Owjtig to the preotccupation of Home politics and the unsettled oondition laf Australian and South African politics, it is recognised that the Imperial defence' position needs to bo discussed, afresh. Owing *tk> the recent development, the arrangement come to at the 1909 Conference concerning the Pacific can be regarded as lapsed.
