POPULACE ALARMED

(Received Last Night, 11.40 o'clock.) COLON. Oct. 2. The earthquake lasted nearly a minute. Houses rocked-and the population aroused from sleep, filled the streets. The earthquake was much more severe than any since the Americans took possession of the canal zone, and was felt from Panama to Colon. The first shock was slight, followed by one of longer duration, which rocked the foundations of buildings. No damage to the canal is reported.
