At the Church Congress to be opened at Southampton on Wednesday next, a stern fight is promised between Suffragists and anti-Suffra-gists engaged in active educational propaganda outside the congress. Regrettable incidents are threatened. On Sunday the Archbishop of York was descending from the Communion Table at the conclusion of the consecration of bishops when an elderly lady rushed forward, prostrated herself on the ground, and seized the Archbishop's robes. Officials of the church removed her. It was at first believed she was a Suffragette, burC later it was learnt that she was a lady deeply religious and higMy emotional. DETECTIVES HOAXED. THEY DID NOT APPRECIATE THE JOKE. 'Times'—'Sydney Sun' Special Cables. (Received Oct. 1, 8.30 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 30. A boatload of ladies hoaxed an army of detectives who were guarding Cabinet Ministers at Brodrick Ca«ile, Isle of Arran. They rowed a small boat in the direction of a landing stage, the while frantically waving a green flag. The police lined the stage to resist a landing, but fhe ladies, enjoying the trick, _ rowed away. The detectives did not appreciate th« hoax.
