MR REDMOND'S SPEECH.
CABLE NEWS.
(United Fress Association — By Electric Telegraph — Copyright).)
I HARSHLY "CRITICISED. DEATH-KNELL TO CONFERENCE. (Received Last Night, 10.50 o'clock.) LONDON, Sept. 30. Siv Edward Carson, , in an interview, said Mr Redmond's speech left Ulster unmoved. Mr Redmond, he said, completely failed to understand the position. Until he appreciated the reality o'f the Ulster situation any settlement by compromsie would be hopeless. Unionist journals regard Mr Redmond's scoffing; reference to Ulster's preparation almost as the deathknell of the proposed conference. Mr William O'Brien, writing in the Cork Free Press, says Mr Redmond made an arrogant and impertinent speech, and refuses to consider a «onfereiice to improve a Bill which can only be enforced by coercion, which would result in civil eruption. : He asks whether "this is not the asininity of a blundering windbag or the deliberate betrayal of a scheming hypocrite, whose service to the Irish cause has been to make hifr son-in-law chief turn-key to Kilmainham Gaol.
A STATEMENT EXPLAINED.
LIBERALS AGAINST CONFERENCE. Received This. Morning, 12.5 o'clocK. V LONDON, Sept. 30. Mr J. Robertson, Liberal member for Northumberland, has explained that his statement in regard to the British Post Office and Ulster was made without Ministerial sanction. Unionist newspapers declare that no communications has- passed between the Government and the Opposition relative to a Home Rule Conference. There is a strong opinion amongst the Liberals against a conference, though several small groups are ready to work for a compromise.
