THE COST OF LIVING. AN AUTHOR'S EXPOSURES. (Received Last Night, 5.5 o'clock.) WASHINGTON, Sept. 27. Extraordinary means of calling attention to the high cost of living in the United States have been adopted, by Mr Thomas Lawson, the author of "Frenzied Finance." A richly-bound edition of a volume dealing with the costfiof living has been delivered io both Houses of Congress and at White House by the express companies, each legislator receiving a copy. Mr Laweon urged setting up of a joint Congressional Court to investigate the wholesale .v-midals and corruptions prevailing throughout the country, which he alleges are causing the high cost o* the necessaries of life. Mr Lawson declared in one chapter of the book-that, if-Lincoln were alive now, he would have as much chance of becoming .Preside.it as Christ would have of becoming a Steel Trust director. Mr Lawson unveiks bank scandals whereby the directors misused the public funds; scandals whereby inside knowledge of ■Government decisions were utilised by financiers to make • ««i the' Stock Exchange; and the wholesale looting of foreign-investors by means of stock manipulation. .
