IMPURE SEEDS.
One of tin? greatest curses to the farming community in JNew Zealand in recent years has-been-, the dissemination of seeds and cereals containing large quantities of Californiart thistle and other impurities.. In some parts of the North Island farmera have been practically ruined by purchasing seed containing various
taoxious elements. One of the first duties of the Board of Agriculture, when ft is set up, wiß be tor reoomv mend some adequate form of protection to the farmer, against impure seeds. In many cases the farmer himself is to blame, for he purchases low-priced seed without the slightest regard for its. quality. In Denmark they have seed-testing stations, and no seed that has not been subjected to the most rigorous test is, "allowed to go on to the market. Similar sta>tiong will require to be established in New Zealand if our agricultural industry is to be made to pay.
